Disappointing news...No Festival in 2014 but 2015 to be our best yet –
Help us to achieve this The organisers of Stone Music and Arts Festival are disappointed to say that they will not be able to arrange a festival in time for July this year, due to difficulties in securing sufficient sponsorship. However, the organisers are concentrating their efforts on 2015 and are making a plea for the people of Stone to help them in making this even better than previous years. Stone Music Festival is the West Midland’s biggest FREE music festival and has attracted thousands of visitors to the town for two days of live music on stages in the High Street since 2008. The festival has received generous support from a number of local businesses, organisations and individuals but this year, its main sponsor Wedgwood, is unable to commit to supporting the festival in 2014. The Chairman, Dr Steve Brookes, expressed his disappointment but remains upbeat: “2013 was our fifth music festival in Stone and we were looking forward to our sixth in July 2014. However, securing sponsorship is very difficult, particularly as we are all volunteers. We are very grateful to those local businesses that have supported us in the past and, of course, we are very grateful for the support of Wedgwood, our main sponsor over the last three years. To try and recover this deficit so close to July has led to this disappointing decision. However, we still have the goodwill of our merry band of volunteers and we would like to encourage more local residents and businesses to join us, particularly in relation to activities and ideas in relation to fund-raising” Steve continued: “We’ll be inviting residents and businesses to join us at a public meeting in the next few weeks with a view to helping our growing group of Friends of the Festival to once again pull off the very difficult task of putting on such a popular free event. It’s Stone’s music and arts festival so let everyone in the town join us in continuing to make this an event to be proud off,” he said. “We are keen to encourage people from Stone to give as little or as much of their time as they can. It is very rewarding and we are building not only a good festival group but also a group of friends who share a love of music and arts”. Please make contact with the Stone Music and Arts Festival Society if you would be interested in helping the society to both shape and deliver an even better festival in 2015 either by contacting the organisers through the website or ringing Steve Brookes on 07890 267162 |
